Oxford Pet Resort Introduces new ‘Small Paws Cottage’ for lapdog boarding

Sept. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Oxford, MS – Oxford Pet Resort & Spa (formerly Pampered Paws Pet Resort & Spa) announced their new Small Paws Cottage, a 900 square foot boarding facility exclusively for small dogs and puppies or for dogs with special needs.  “We wanted to offer small dogs and puppies their own separate facility away from our main boarding facility so we could better attend to their specific needs and give them the attention they require,” said Niki Tudge, The owner and operator of the Oxford Pet Resort & Spa.  Tudge is a certified dog trainer and animal behavior counselor and designs all of the Pet Resort’s services based on animal behavior and learning theory.  

The separate facility provides a quieter setting with private play yards so puppies and lapdogs can play and frolic with dogs their own size.  “We can supervise play and any special needs much more effectively at Small Paws and our guests absolutely love it,” said Tudge.  Each ‘guest’ has its own safe and secure nap area and lounging on the furniture is welcomed.

The new facility is located with The DogSmith Training Center and all of the Resort’s Pet Care Technicians are trained in animal behavior and handling.  “It is critical, when your pet is away from home, that its normal routines and behaviors are maintained and reinforced so being away from its family will not be traumatic,” said Tudge.  “We are excited to offer our customers this additional service option that meets the specific needs of our small dog clients,” she added.

Oxford Pet Resort & Spa also offers ‘board & train’ packages through their DogSmith Dog Training Center where guests can receive customized training by certified dog trainers while boarding.  The new Small Paws Cottage offers the opportunity for puppy owners to have house-training effectively taught in a realistic home environment.  According to Tudge, “We want to provide an environment for small dogs and puppies that will, first, truly replicate their home environment and second, allow us to maintain and reinforce desired behaviors, especially when house-training puppies.”

The DogSmith is well known for its free puppy classes, flexible “Drop In” dog training classes that can be customized to fit even the busiest dog’s schedule and its ‘clicks-4-tricks’ clicker-based ‘fun’ class for dog owners who want to develop new tricks and behaviors with their dogs.
