Bloom Spokane believes that all women deserve access to credible, accurate information about pregnancy and childbirth. As educated consumers, women are empowered to make informed health care decisions and choose maternity care providers who are best suited to their particular needs and wishes. We recognize birth as a normal, healthy process—not an illness or disease. Women in our community should have the opportunity to birth instinctively and freely, whether they choose to give birth at home, a birth center or hospital. Families should be educated about their choices: the risks, the benefits and the alternatives. We want our pregnant and laboring mothers to be recognized and treated as individuals with their own sets of needs, desires and goals. Most importantly, the process of birth needs to be trusted, respected and unhindered.
