Sept. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Jenkintown, PA — Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) is excited to offer the latest update to the vjoon K4™ Cross-Media Publishing Platform, the preeminent workflow-management system for creating and managing content for print, Web, tablets, mobile devices and more. MEI, an Adobe® premier development partner and a leading provider of software for the publishing industry, today announced that version 6.4 of vjoon K4 is now available, with several enhancements that boost its powerful and versatile functionality.

With almost 20,000 users taking advantage of its innovative workflow-management features, vjoon K4 is already established as the world's most dependable solution integrating Adobe InDesign® and Adobe InCopy®. vjoon K4 also integrates seamlessly with Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite™, the emerging standard for tablet publishing. Core features such as versioning, variants, explicit multi-channel workflows and multiple placement of objects ensure that content can be easily authored and reused. vjoon K4 is a product of vjoon GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, and MEI is the exclusive distributor of the software in the Americas.

“This latest release is full of exciting new features that really boost productivity,” said Linda Bruce, vice president of enterprise sales at MEI. “Version 6.4 further establishes vjoon K4 as the centralized editorial platform for producing content for any number of output channels.”

One of the highlights of version 6.4 is the ability to create and administer multiple K4 databases. This allows sites to manage and distribute publications and database content more effectively across one or more servers, making it easier to incorporate backup and business continuity processes alongside live workflows. The result is more uptime, more database availability and more flexibility in the production process.

vjoon K4 has been supercharged with several features that make it easier than ever for users to work on and complete tasks. For example, the new “button bars” function allows sites to add customized icons to the K4 query panels, providing quick access to frequently performed tasks and automations. Query panels also include new filtering options, allowing users to quickly search and filter query results.

Another new feature in version 6.4 is the ability to open K4 objects directly from K4 Overview Advanced™, an optional component that lets users monitor workflow progress and review pages from any Web browser. Now, supervising editors and other managers can easily make changes themselves by simply right-clicking a page image in the browser to open a layout, article or other K4 object directly into InDesign or InCopy.

The latest version of vjoon K4 also includes several powerful updates for the K4 Web Portal™, the system’s platform for browser-based remote connectivity. One new feature gives users more options for customizing and saving K4 Web Portal query settings and query panel arrangement. And K4 Web Editor ICML™, the K4 Web Portal plug-in that lets editorial users create and edit InCopy articles from within a Web browser, has been enhanced to allow users to switch geometry views to see how their articles appear and flow in different layouts — such as a tablet layout versus a print layout — just as if they were looking at them in InDesign.

New capabilities for the K4 Admin™ interface include:

Improved management over multiple instances of InDesign Server, giving administrators the option to route tasks to different servers for improved performance and load balancing.
The ability to configure a K4 Distributed Enterprise System™ with its associated K4 Local Data Storages™, allowing enterprise publishers to distribute system access across several geographic locations.
More control over K4 Directory Services Integration™ for easily populating the K4 database with user information and authentication.
