Sept. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- DETROIT, M.I. – Car recalls by Honda have been announced again, and the cumulative amount of Honda car recalls this year have made this automaker a numerical standout. With 2.4 million vehicles recalled in 2010, which was the third highest amount for any automaker, Honda has already surpassed this number as September continues.
The models that are affected by the current car recalls include the 2006 Honda CR-V as well as 2011 Honda CR-Z vehicles. Both sets of vehicles are being recalled for different reasons as Honda completes two separate recall campaigns.
2006 CR-V
In April, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into three reported incidents of fires, which started in November 2010.

The problem lies with the power window master switch. Due to the design of the main switch, it is possible for residue from other interior cleaners to build up and possibly lead to the electrical contacts to degrade and eventually lead to a fire in the switch within the driver’s door.
Since the investigation, another 24 complaints were received that did not include fires. Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, this problem is the same as one that led to car recalls in 2010 when 141,000 Honda Fits, model years 2007-2008, were recalled.
For this recall, 80,111 CR-Vs will be recalled to replace the power master switch.
2011 CR-Z
There will be 5,626 2011 CR-Zs voluntarily recalled as Honda needs to update the software that controls the hybrid electric motor within manual transmission vehicles.
If the battery is in a low state of charge and the transmission is in gear, the CR-Z’s gasoline engine may stall. In this scenario, it is possible that the electric motor will rotate opposite of the selected transmission gear (i.e. if the vehicle is in reverse, the vehicle’s engine will rotate forward). Should the electric motor rotate, and the driver is not engaging the brakes, the vehicle could slowly roll unexpectedly in the opposite direction.
Honda believes that the upgrade to the software will prevent this from happening and will stop any future potential crashes.
Both sets of car recalls have surpassed the total number of recalls for 2010 as Honda continues with its current recalls.
