Sept. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Delta Power Group, manufacturer of rigid inflatable boats (RIB's) for military, government  and offshore oil customers - has been boosted by international orders in recent months, and is now looking to its commercial interests.

In August the company signed a contract with the Irish Coast Guard for the provision of 12 Delta 900 Super X Coast Guard RIBS (with deliveries taking place across the next five years); delivered one of its 6.8 m X range Delta RIBS to the Geneva Police in Switzerland for use on Lake Geneva. The company previously provided five pilot boats for the French navy to operate from Toulon, Cherbourg and Brest.
Delta, which is roughly split between its commercial and military sales, is expecting to see its military sales slow as spending cuts hit government defence budgets worldwide, although it expects commercial sales to make up for this. Sarah Norton, company manager, told Jane's on 6 September: "We've been fortunate through this period because of our split in business. What we are finding is that we are getting a lot more business in other areas which counters the lack of business on the government side."
Typically ranging from 10-12 m long, although the company has produced 19 m vessels in the past, Delta's RIBs are and by customers involved in search and rescue, offshore support for oil and gas production, police and security roles, coast guard and border control activities as well for use as dive boats and harbour pilot vessels.

Overall Delta sees about half of its revenues generated from exports, with the remainder from the UK. Norton told Jane's that the company had recently seen its first sale to the US, although she declined to identify the customer. However the vessel is understood to be intended for use in the Arctic.

On whether the company would look to expand in the US, Norton said no, adding: "I think the difficulty is for UK companies doing business with the US with all the regulation and insurance." However, she added: "I think Arctic exploration will open the US up as a market - as far as I know we are the first company to have built a daughter craft to go to minus 40 [degrees]."

"Asia, I think, is a really difficult market because of China," Norton told Jane's. "We have in the past explored a joint venture in India and I think that's a difficult part of the world for a UK-based builder to be in anyway - competitive."

She added that Delta is active in selling its products themselves and through the use of agents in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Privately owned Delta, through its Stockport, Cheshire, (UK), facility employs about 35 staff, with close to 30 of these involved in the manufacturing of Delta's RIBs.
