Gap Provides Global Tracking Portal For The Iridium Extreme™

Sept. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Ipswich, United Kingdom – September 8, 2011 - AWS is pleased to announce that its Global Alerting Platform (GAP), already on the market today, will be available immediately to support online tracking for the new Iridium Extreme™ satellite phone.  AWS is a certified Iridium Location Based Services Portal Supplier for the new handset.

Launched on September 7, 2011 the Iridium Extreme is the toughest, most feature-enhanced satellite phone on the market.  It is part of a new force in communication, putting innovative capability into the hands of people everywhere.  The launch of Iridium Extreme supports Iridium’s corporate commitment to taking connectivity beyond the traditional limits of terrestrial networks, which cover less than 10 percent of the globe.  

AWS assisted in the development and design of Iridium’s communications protocols for the Iridium Extreme.   GAP is a comprehensive mapping and tracking solution that supports all of the advanced features of the handset.

GAP is a pay-as-you-go, cloud based, globally scalable system for satellite messaging, tracking and alerting.  It provides a web based interface that shows the location of an Iridium Extreme user anywhere on Earth.  With GAP, Iridium Extreme customers can use email, SMS and popular social networks to keep in touch.  GAP also provides features for relaying emergency messages to first responders and search and rescue authorities.
