As one of the most damaging storms hit New Jersey this past week, solar PV installations were put to the test. Hurricane Irene, a category 1 hurricane, destroyed countless properties, but KB Racking’s AeroRack 100 solar PV system on a large solar commercial rooftop installation withstood the winds in Central New Jersey and came out of the storm completely unharmed.
The winds uprooted trees and power lines but the innovative design of the AeroRack 100 ensured that it could handle the winds. “The AeroRack has weathered multiple storms over the last three years on its systems in Europe, so it comes at little surprise that we have not had any incidents here now”, comments Peter Aulich, Executive Vice President of KB Racking.
The AeroRack 100 is a unique lightweight, non-penetrating flat roof mounting system for large photovoltaic rooftop arrays. The innovative design makes this the lightest system in the industry and was able to withstand the demanding wind force of the storm.
