A group of doctors, scientists and students are tackling cancer outside the lab by hitting the water to paddle for the Cedars Cancer Institute.

Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- (Montreal) On September 24, 2011, The Visionaries will be stepping out of the research labs and hospital clinics to paddle for the Cedars Cancer Institute in the annual Dragon Boat Race. The group, comprised of doctors, scientists and students, is raising funds and awareness for CanSupport, an initiative that changes the lives of cancer patients and their families.

"We do what we can to make a difference," notes team member Shawn Maloney, a PhD student at McGill University. "Everyone is eager to participate in the event and to help with the ongoing fundraising efforts. It's great to see so many people involved."

Each year, teams of 21 people paddle large canoe-like crafts called 'Dragon boats' to raise funds for the Cedars Cancer Institute. While paddlers are often members of the community, occasionally physicians and researchers actively involved in treating patients and studying cancer, respectively, participate in the event. This year, The Visionaries have assembled an entire team of people who spend their days working together to treat cancer patients and study potential live-altering therapies.

The Visionaries are seeking the support of businesses and individuals who are willing to make donations and spread the word about the event. For additional information or to donate, please visit: http://www.paddleforcancer.com
