The free festival tripled in attendance in 2010, and is expected to grow again for its third year. New activities this year include a sheep herding demonstration by the border collies from Heatherhope Farm, Doggie Olympics events from the Dog Scouts, including the peanut butter lick contest, a red carpet dog fashion show from Pampered Pooch Couture and the new Rover Rest area, featuring comfy sofas and a dog movie on the TV for pets who need a break from the action.
Suzanne Waghorne, Recreation Coordinator at the Carol Stream Park District said “This festival is focused on celebrating our four legged friends, and has truly become a highlight of the year for local dog lovers. As well as some great new activities, we’re excited to have some of our favorite activities return too, including flyball, Canine Good Citizen evaluations from the AKC, dog Frisbee displays from the Windy City K9 Disc Club, and of course, our off leash area.”
The fido shopping mall has also expanded for 2011, with dozens of vendors selling everything from dog treats to dog t-shirts. Information on Carol Stream’s new dog park, the Bark Park, will also be available at the event.
The festival takes place from noon to 4pm on Sunday Sept 18 at Armstrong Park, and for the 2nd year, the Rotary Club of Carol Stream will be kicking off the event with the Fido Fun 3k walk. CSBarks is sponsored by Camp Ruff It, Paradise 4 Paws, Fifth Third Bank, Delight Dogs Training, The Barking Lot, Kountry Kennels, My Vitality Chiropractic and Mapleberry Pancake House.
