PROSSER, WA    – July 20, 2011 – Red Comet (www.redcomet.org) announced today that it has earned the approval of the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instructions (OSPI) as a “Multi-District Online Course Provider”.  With this recognition, Red Comet now offers free, self-paced, online high school courses to all Students in WA State.

Jupiter Education Services, LLC. acquired the assets of Red Comet in May 2010.  Since acquiring the assets, the entire Red Comet online high school program has been revamped.

Red Comet was accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) (www.northwestaccreditation.org) in Feb, 2011.  The new program is aligned to academic standards across most of the states in the U.S.  The new program offers a rigorous syllabus that promotes higher-order thinking, with online help available from certified teachers. In addition to core courses in English, Social Studies, Science and Math, Red Comet will also offer Advanced Placement courses for the gifted and talented. Many new high school Elective courses that focus on career development or technical skills have also been introduced.

Red Comet, founded in 1999, has been providing credit retrieval and enhancement for high school students in the US.  Nearly 400 high schools across the United States have used Red Comet courses to help students graduate from high school on time.

“Many students have multiple barriers to attending traditional high school,” said Dr. Jay Srinivasan, Managing Director of Red Comet.  “Red Comet’s vision is to help these students achieve their academic goals using a self-paced online program.  Since the program is entirely free to students living in Washington State, it eliminates the economic barrier to earning a high school diploma”.

"We are very proud of this achievement. This validates our commitment to quality and our goal to provide the very best learning environment for our students. Our mission is to help students learn and be prepared to face the challenges in the real world,” said Ms. Sapna Ganeshan, President of Red Comet.  “Schools that have used our program have seen significant increases in their high school graduation rate, and interest in students wanting to attend college.”  She also said that Red Comet’s program has earned top ratings in the recent student satisfaction survey conducted by OSPI.
