Follow on Google News | TÜV NORD Certifies Manufacturers Of Steel And Aluminium ComponentsTÜV NORD has now been approved by the authorised civil engineering institute, Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, as an inspection and certification body for construction products in accordance with EN 1090-1.
By: TÜV NORD Group Manufacturers of load-bearing steel or aluminium elements must be certified in accordance with EN 1090-1 by 1 July of next year at the latest. The EN 1090 series of standards, which apply throughout Europe, specifies certification of manufacturers' factory production control as a prerequisite for CE marking. Following the transition period, steel or aluminium components may only be put into circulation if they have the CE mark, irrespective of whether the products are sold within Germany or exported to other European countries. "Many customers already expect their suppliers to be certified to EN 1090-1, even if the DIN 18800-7 certificates are still valid during the transitional period", says Morten Kaschner, director of the notified body for metal structural components at TÜV NORD. For the purposes of certification, the independent experts from the notified body audit the factory control system of the manufacturer during an initial inspection, followed by periodic surveillance. Welder's test certificates and samples of work are evaluated during a factory tour, for example, and there are discussions with welding supervisors. The assessment itself is based on the requirements for structural design and manufacture of steel and aluminium components as specified in the EN 1090 series of standards. With achievement of certification by TÜV NORD, manufacturers can demonstrate proof of conformity for steel or aluminium components in accordance with EN 1090-1 and are entitled to attach the CE mark to the components. # # # With over 10,000 employees, TÜV NORD Group is one of the largest technical service providers, offering its advisory, service and inspection expertise in over 70 countries throughout the world.
