His appeal was supported by the National Health Aaron Motsoaledi, who said the Western Cape was not alone in extensive drug use.

Zille said that he agreed with the mandatory drug tests, and that this was long overdue.

"If there's one thing I am going to partner you, it's abuse of drugs and alcohol," said Motsoaledi.

Zille said Motsoaledi WHO at a meeting on violence yesterday that drug testing would be an incentive for students exposed to drug use, even at home - they prevent them from using drugs for fear that 'they do not get caught up in school.

She also said a proposed ban on alcohol advertising, he assured delegates Motsoaledi and was about to become a reality, will go a long way in combating excessive alcohol consumption.

Zille said the drug in the province was "deeply, with more than 70 percent of children to report Lavender Hill were exposed to violence, either directly or indirectly."

He said a teacher at a local school had been tested for about 15 students use drugs and have been found positive. The teacher then tested for the whole class, and half of the 14 years of age were positive.

"We must do something dramatic to get to the bottom of this problem. We have an absolute crisis in the Western Cape. We should restrict or prohibit the promotion of the price of alcoholic drinks as it encourages binge drinking."

Western Cape is the country of drug-related crime in the capital, amounting to almost half of South Africa reported drug-related crime between April 2009 and March last year.

Of the 134,840 recorded incidents nationally were 60,409 in the province, an increase of 14.5 percent over 2009 figures for the region and 200 percent higher than the same period to March 2004 .

Province rate drug crimes in 1127 to 100 000 inhabitants, more than four times the national average of 273rd

Motsoaledi said the proposal to introduce mandatory testing in schools and to ban advertising of alcohol have been a priority for his ministry.

"I can assure you, Prime Minister, what action will be taken soon. I do not anticipate this by making public announcements, but alcohol has been identified as a major risk factor for intentional and unintentional injuries."

Motsoaledi said the government was so concerned about the burden of injuries in the health care system he had formed an interdepartmental committee that would review and correct use of alcohol and drugs in the country.

He said the violence was a major contributor to the disease burden of the health system was facing four. Apart from diseases like HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis, and concerns such as maternal, infant and child mortality, injuries and violence remains the biggest problem.

Even more worrying is the risk of damage caused by alcohol abuse.

Motsoaledi said he did not understand why a product that had destroyed his life promoting.

"I still can not understand how we allow a product that is so important to the health disadvantages of widely publicized, even children."

He said that whenever the government wanted to impose restrictions, there were cries that such measures would destroy the economy.

Those involved in this debate were the big snuff and beer companies, as well as some big media companies to cry that they would lose the benefits of advertising.

"But how do you justify that the economy is destroying lives? I thought that the economy would be a better life, not destroy them," said Motsoaledi.

Craig Househam, Director of the Provincial Health Department, said that the province of strategies to reduce alcohol consumption to reduce the right to use it, by investing in safer drinking environments and adverse effects of alcohol advertising.
