Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Applications are now being accepted for East Suburban Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America’s 2nd Annual Beautillion. This event acknowledges the achievements of young African American men who are chosen in recognition of his demonstrated achievements in academics, sports, the arts, community, church, leadership, and his overall commitment to the advancement of African Americans.  This year's theme is “Trailblazers: Legacies Destined to Succeed."

The Beautillion is designed to prepare high school juniors and seniors for college and subsequent life.  During the program, the participants (“beaux”) are required to attend workshops on topics such as:  etiquette, fiscal responsibility, men’s health, financial aid, career preparation and public speaking.  In addition, the young men will attend social and cultural events and perform a community service project.

"Our beaux of years past are all enrolled in a college or university,” said ESAC Chapter President, Dee Dawkins-Haigler.  “Eighty-five percent (85%) were student athletes and 3.31 is the average high school GPA.  We are proud of our inaugural success and aim to continue this tradition in the East-metro Atlanta area," she said.

"This year we will spend 8 months developing young men to transition into adulthood.  All of our funding comes from sponsors who believe in the impact of the program and are willing to support it financially," added DeAndrea Conway, Beautillion Committee Chair.

At the culmination of the program, each of the beaux are presented to their parents, friends, teachers and other invited guests at the beautillion ball, a black tie gala.  At the ball, each beau invites a young lady to escort him for the evening (his “belle”), performs a waltz and presents a speech.
