Special Registration Hours Announced for Cancer Walk

Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Support Connection, Inc., a not-for-profit organization offering free, confidential support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, has scheduled pre-registration hours at their office for their 17th Annual Support-A-Walk.

From now until September 16, the Support Connection office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Extended registration hours for the Support-A-Walk are as follows: Weekdays, Sept. 19 through Sept. 30, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 24, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Stop in during those hours with questions, to register or to make donations: Support Connection, 40 Triangle Center, Suite 100, Yorktown Heights, NY. Pre-registration can also be done online at http://www.supportconnection.org. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. In 2010, there were close to 10,000 people at FDR Park for the Support-A-Walk.

The Support-A-Walk will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011 (rain or shine) at FDR Park, Route 202, Yorktown Heights, NY. The date is selected in honor of National Ovarian Awareness Cancer Month in September and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. It is a 3-mile walkathon held to increase awareness about breast and ovarian cancer. Proceeds help to fund Support Connection’s free support services.

The Support-A-Walk was started seventeen years ago by local residents. Each year, thousands of people from across the Hudson Valley take part in this spirited, uplifting event. Many participants walk in celebration of or in tribute to those affected by these diseases.

All are welcome to participate in the Support-A-Walk. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome to participate. Pre-registration is encouraged. For those unable to attend, donations are still accepted.
