Fisher House WI Hosts Second Annual Benefit Motorcycle Ride for Families of Wounded Veterans

Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- MILWAUKEE (September 6, 2011) – Fisher House Wisconsin, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds to build Wisconsin’s first Fisher House facility at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, is hosting its second annual motorcycle benefit ride on Saturday, September 10, 2011. The Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association (CVMA) – Wisconsin Chapter is sponsoring the benefit ride in support of Fisher House Wisconsin.  

Registration will occur at the Blue Star Memorial Park located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m, with a brief ceremony honoring military service members from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  This police-escorted motorcycle ride will depart the VA grounds at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at the House of Harley-Davidson, where the post-ride benefit party and raffle will be held.  The party and raffle are open to the public and not limited to those on the morning benefit ride.  

“With more than one third of Harley-Davidson riders being present or former military, it’s natural for riders and enthusiasts to support the construction of Fisher House Wisconsin,” commented John Schaller, owner of the House of Harley Davidson.  “The Fisher House Ride on September 10 will be a visible reminder of the bond between Harley-Davidson and the United States Military, and the House of Harley-Davidson is honored to do our part in this year’s ride activities and after-party.”

Waylon Gross, State Commander for CVMA, Wisconsin stated, “CVMA is made up of combat veterans and our families.  We fully understand the sacrifice made daily by our brothers and sisters who continue to serve in harm’s way. Supporting the mission of Fisher House Wisconsin is a natural fit for our organization.  Fisher House facilities across the US and in Germany have been there for many of our wounded military and their families since the start of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  Giving back to such a great organization is one way we can help to build a Fisher House here in Wisconsin.”

Lunch will be prepared and served by Greendale’s VFW Post 10519 and American Legion Post 416.  Raffle items will also be available, along with live music performed by the Whiskey Belles and Razors Edge.  All proceeds will go to support construction of Wisconsin’s first Fisher House in Milwaukee.  Cost for the benefit ride includes a commemorative patch, lunch and drink tickets.  Raffle tickets will be sold during registration and at the after party for various items. Cost for a single motorcycle rider is $40 and $50 with a passenger.

Fisher House Wisconsin works closely with the Fisher House Foundation in Rockville, Maryland, to manage and provide oversight of fundraising for the Wisconsin project.  Fisher House Wisconsin is required to raise $3 million of the $6 million needed to build the Milwaukee VA facility.  Construction of the Milwaukee-based Fisher House is slated to begin in early 2013.  Currently there are 54 Fisher House facilities throughout the United States and in Germany.
