Environmental Professionals at the Forefront in Rebuilding after Hurricane Irene

Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Just a week after Hurricane Irene caused extensive damage to property and loss of life, initial estimates of the property damage range from $7 to $10 billion.  Homes, businesses and institutions all suffered heavy damage due to strong winds, rain, flooding and tidal surges.

People in many of these areas are now in the process of rebuilding and dealing with property insurance providers.  At the forefront in the rebuilding efforts are thousands of indoor air quality (IAQ) and environmental professionals working closely with remediation and reconstruction professionals.  

The services provided by IAQ and environmental professionals are crucial as many of these damaged properties had existing lead and asbestos materials in them.  Many suffered water damage that contained sewage and chemicals that has also lead to the growth of mold and bacteria.  Any one of these contaminants could lead to health threats to remediation and reconstruction professionals and future health concerns for building occupants if they are not addressed properly during the reconstruction.
