New York, NY — September  5, 2011 — http://www.MetroNY.com announced today that they had reached a record level of ticket sales for the US Open Tennis Championship Tournament currently underway in the Borough of Queen, New York.  This is the fourth year that MetroNY.com has offered tickets to the tournament, which takes place each year at Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Jack Lynch, Director of Communications and Partnerships for http://www.MetroNY.com, “With 6 days left in the tournament we’ve already exceeded last year’s volume of ticket sales. And we’ve surpassed last year in tickets to the actual matches, parking passes, hospitality passes, and grounds passes. With Federer, Nadal, and Serena Williams still advancing we should have compelling matches as we head into the semi- finals and finals, which means that tickets will be in high demand. We expect to double our revenue from last year. We’ve also seen a corresponding increase in our sales of Broadway show tickets, hotel rooms and concert tickets for shows that take place while the tournament is being played.  People traveling into the New York area for the tournament spend lots of money, not only on the tournament, but on travel and entertainment while they’re visiting.”

The US Open Tennis Championship Tournament is the 4th and final event of The Grand Slam and comes to the Flushing Meadows section of the Big Apple each year in August/September. The tournament dates as far back to 1881 and moved to Forest Hills New York in 1915. The tournament was originally a men's only tournament but these days it is open for both men and women, with over 600 players entered this year. Winners of the tournament will get a shot at over $7 million in prize money and the competition is fierce. The US Open is considered the crown jewel of the Grand Slam.
