Sumner will discuss the audio files of Ladder #15 actions that were recorded by the Port Authority of NY/NJ. Those recordings are the only ones known to exist of the firefighters in the towers on 9/11. Due to work by Sumner and others, the recordings were publicly released in 2002, subsequent to federal court order. A large portion of the recordings can be found at http://www.911familiesforamerica.org/?
Sumner retired from the US Army in 1994. He and his wife Patty, Leavey's sister, live in central PA, not far from the site of the Shanksville crash of United Airlines Flight 93. Sumner also lost a close friend on 9/11 at the Pentagon, Army Sergeant Major Larry Strickland. Lieutenant Joseph Leavey left a wife, Carole, and two children, Brian (then 16) and Caitlin (then 10). He was a beloved member of his community and church in Pelham, NY.
Also joining Ageless Radio on Saturday, September 10th will be Stephen Cywin. Cywin was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley on 9-11-01. He escaped the World Trade Center and will share with listeners his reflections on that day. When asked about the tenth anniversary, Cywin commented, "Over time, the World Trade Center has clearly faded from the nation's consciousness and I suppose the tenth anniversary is likely to be the last chance to keep people from writing the whole thing off as a historical footnote." Cywin now runs his own consulting firm in New Jersey.
Rounding out the show is Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) P. Brian Gale, II. Gale is a Citadel graduate who retired from the US Army in 2009 after 21 years of distinguished service, culminating as the 3rd Division Chief of Strategic Planning and Communications. He is a founder of Operation R&R in Hilton Head, an organization that provides vacation facilities for military personnel while on leave from Iraq and Afghanistan. With three deployments to Iraq and five years unaccompanied in Korea, Gale understands the challenges faced by returning service members from extended deployments. Joining Gale in the studio will be Marjorie Weibe-Reed, owner of Access Design Group, LLC of Savannah. Weibe-Reed will present a Patriot Day check to Operation R&R.
