EU children will have their names in space

The European Commission is inviting children aged 9 to 11 to participate in a drawing competition about ‘Space and Aeronautics’. The winners, one from each EU Member State, will have a Galileo Programme satellite named after them.

Sept. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- To take part, children must upload a scanned image or a digital photograph of their ‘space and aeronautics’-related drawing at http://www.galileocontest.eu by not later than the 15th November 2011. Participants are free to use any medium and technique to draw the Earth, planets, satellites, or the launch of the Galileo satellite rockets.

The winner, who will be selected by a national adjudication panel, will be announced at an awards ceremony where the child will be presented with a certificate and a trophy representing the real satellite that will bear the national winner’s name.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Martin Bugelli, Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta, said, “Many children dream of becoming astronauts when they grow up. Dreams do come true. But until then, Maltese children can dream of giving their name to one of the Galileo Programme satellites. For this dream to come true, all they need to do it to take part in this pan-European competition.”
