Dallas Attorney Files Open Records Request Regarding DeSoto ISD Settlment With Kathy Augustine

Sept. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Responding to DeSoto ISB Board President Warren Seay, Dallas attorney William Lovin today filed an open records request with the Texas Education Agency demanding release of, "All materials pertaining to the discharge of, and subsequent settlement with, Superintendent Kathy Augustine." Mr. Lovin specifically requested all items pertaining to "the financial terms of the settlement."

Mr. Lovin said, "Mr. Seay's refusal to release the terms of the Board's settlement with Ms. Augustine is completely unacceptable, particularly for a elected public official who purports to act as a good steward of the hard-earned tax dollars of DeSoto ISD residents." Mr. Lovin further said, "DeSoto ISD residents have an absolute right to know how much was paid and on what terms." Mr. Lovin further commented, "Without this vital information, voters won't know which board members are acting in their best interest and which are not."

"Every aspect of the hiring of Ms. Augustine was flawed: The original search, the necessary background checks, and now the separation agreement all appear to have been completely botched, an impression that is only heightened by the Board's secrecy," said Mr. Lovin. "Unfortunately for DeSoto ISD taxpayers, there appear to numerous skeletons in this closet," Lovin concluded.
