Sept. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Save the date Harry Potter fans! The Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia will be transformed into Hogsmeade village Friday, October 14 through Sunday, October 16th as wizards and witches, muggles and magic appear up and down the Avenue for Chestnut Hill's first Harry Potter Weekend!  Wands & capes will be everywhere, and your favorite Chestnut Hill shops will suddenly be selling balms and potions, cauldrons and broomsticks, robes and wizardwear. Tea shops and sweetshops, taverns and apothecaries will open their doors, and Harry Potter fans will enjoy scavenger hunts, costume contests, Quidditch classes, spells and potions.

On Saturday, get your Quidditch fix at the 2nd Annual Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament at Chestnut Hill College. The tournament will feature two Quidditch pitches with games playing simultaneously for spectators to view. The best three Philadelphia-area colleges will compete in the final bracket of the tournament.

Muggle (or for those unfamiliar with the books, non-magical people) Quidditch, the wizarding sport played on broomsticks in the beloved Harry Potter series has leapt off the pages of the fantasy book- and onto college campuses across the country. Quidditch is a game that is a cross between football, dodgeball, and rugby as well as a game of hide and go seek, although all elements from J.K Rowling 's tale are fully represented, including riding broomsticks. The “Golden Snitch,” the flying ball that was Harry’s job as a seeker to capture, is now a track runner with the ability to run all over the campus; Quaffles can still score points, and players can still get bludgered. Muggle Quidditch, created in 2005 at Middlebury College, Vt., has since become a popular nationwide sport, with more than 300 teams forming the Intercollegiate Quidditch Association (IQA) membership.

Harry Potter Weekend and the Brotherly Love Cup are free and open to the public, and is appropriate for all ages. For more information, please visit www.chc.edu and http://www.chestnuthillpa.com.
