American-Russian Business Council Announces “Social Media and Ethnic Communities” Networking Event in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — September 1, 2011 — American-Russian Business Council (ARBC),  a non-profit organization founded in 1994 in California dedicated to enhancing prosperity of its members and associates, today announced speakers for its “Social Media in the Russian Community” networking event. Taking place on Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m. at the Romanov Restaurant in Los Angeles, the event will feature Michael Whelan, marketing manager for Qualcomm Incorporated, and Dave Peck, author of Think Before You Engage: 100 Questions to Ask Before Starting a Social Media Marketing Campaign. “Social media has become a part of today’s culture and has quickly been adopted for both business and personal means,” said Alex Durmashkin, president of the American-Russian Business Council.  “ARBC is pleased to host two experts in this booming field to initiate the discussion about the opportunities and the mechanics of social media programs, as well as best practices for business of all sizes.”

As manager of marketing at Qualcomm, Michael Whelan supports the Company’s global social media programs, including strategy, program development and analytics. He previously managed marketing planning and analytics at DIRECTV.

Dave Peck has been active in new media and online communities since 2004.  One of the early adopters of virtual worlds, he quickly built online buzz and became a featured user by such sites as: Twitter, MySpace, PodShow, Utterz, Blip.tv, and PodcastReady among many others.  He has helped build online communities for such companies such as Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney, Coca Cola and Wells Fargo.  Dave has worked as a Social Media Strategist on projects for The Grammys, The Ozzy Osbourne Auction, and NPR.
