Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute Center for Breast Care named Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute Center for Breast Care has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). With this status, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Through peer-reviewed evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, the ACR has determined that the Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute Center for Breast Care has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

“Patients have a choice when selecting a breast health provider and this designation assures our patients that they’re in a facility with the highest level of imaging quality and safety,” said John Shook, M.D., breast surgeon and medical director of Saint Luke’s Breast Health Program.

This designation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence comes on the heels of another prestigious recognition. In July, Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute, Saint Luke’s South Hospital, and Saint Luke’s East Hospital were granted three-year/full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which recognizes an excellent standard of care.
