Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The New Economy 2011 Smart Grid Awards recognizes those companies that have reached the very highest levels of achievement in their field of expertise and are leading the way in driving their respective industries forward.

The awards panel established criteria for consideration, including innovation, originality and quality of product or service, as well as proof of market development and excellence in client representation.  Smart Buildings has been nominated for Smart Buildings Company of the Year.

The final winners will be announced in the January/February 2012 edition of the New Economy and during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The WEF brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world, including health and the environment.

Smart Buildings, LLC provides engineering and design services for smart buildings and communities. They are one of the few specialized design firms that retain manufacturer autonomy and serve the interests of the building owners and occupants.  As a vendor neutral firm, Smart Buildings spends a considerable amount of time leveraging innovative products, vendors and solutions within a variety of industries from commercial to education to healthcare.  In addition, this year, the company has started the Smart Buildings Institute, a non-profit organization that’s sole purpose is to certify that buildings are designed and constructed for efficient operation and management and to take advantage of future innovations in technology and sustainability practices.

The New Economy is looking for companies that have 1) utilized the power of the Smart grid, 2) demonstrated significant achievement or leadership in the energy, sustainable development, Cleantech, environmental or resources stewardship, and 3) long-term service and commitment to communities and the development of public awareness on the Smart Grid and energy efficiency.  The judges will look for a company that provides a genuinely valuable service.

“The grid and buildings need to communicate and interact. The smart buildings concept is essentially to deploy “buildings with brains” allowing owners to better operate the performance of their buildings. The mandates and imperatives to drastically reduce energy consumption in buildings will drive the changes in how we design, construct and operate buildings.  We are pleased that New Economy is recognizing the value of smart grid and smart building solutions as well as the companies that are leading the innovation,” stated Jim Sinopoli, President and CEO of Smart Buildings, LLC.

In being nominated for an award, it was recognized that the potential of the Smart Grid will be significantly diminished without smart buildings and that Smart Buildings LLC is at the forefront of advancement.  Smart Buildings LLC’s leadership in energy management of buildings, together with service and commitment to industry and innovation played a significant role in their nomination.
