Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX  –The Dallas Police Department invites all law enforcement professionals to the fourth annual Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference, which it is hosting. The three-day event will discuss the use of social media in regards to public order, social activism, and the interaction of old media with new media. The Conference will be held in the downtown Dallas Aloft Hotel (Young St.) from September 28 to 30.

Bringing together one of the largest gatherings of law enforcement professionals in the nation, the Conference proves that social media can be used for more things than keeping up with old friends, school buds, and one’s favorite entertainers or athletes. It will address the use of and responses to social media with emphasis on the changing role between law enforcement, social activists, and traditional media.

Dallas Dodge will sponsor the Conference and additional workshops will be hosted by Lexis Nexis Investigator’s Network and Nixle on September 28 and 29.

“The Dallas Police Department prides itself for being at the forefront of cutting edge communications tools,” commented Dallas Chief of Police David Brown. “We have made a strong commitment to utilizing social media to provide our citizens with timely information about what we are doing. I feel strongly that the ever-growing importance of social media should be embraced by law enforcement agencies and departments everywhere to enhance the services they provide their public.”

As well as hosting the SMILE Convention, Chief Brown and his department have arranged several evening social events for attendees. They are:

•   Tuesday, Sept. 27, 6 p.m. – The Chief’s reception in the Aloft Hotel
•   Wednesday, Sept. 28, 5:30 p.m. – Tour of Cowboys Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys and the world’s largest domed structure
•   Thursday, Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m. – Town Hall meeting

Ever the proud Texan, he also has made arrangements with the Aloft Hotel for extended, reduced rates for attendees wishing to stay and visit the State Fair of Texas. Opening a 24-day run on September 30, it is the largest such fair in the U.S. Several of its Texas-sized attractions include the 212-foot Texas Star Ferris Wheel (North America’s largest), an auto show held in a 300,000-sq. ft. building, and Big Tex, possibly the tallest cowboy in the world at 52 feet.
