Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Author Lisa Mills hopes to make a difference in the lives of sick children and the families that valiantly support them with her words -- 98,000 of them to be exact.

Her newly released debut novel, Holding On, is the story of Danielle Jordan, a single mother who discovers her child has leukemia. Despite the best medical efforts, chemotherapy fails and the doctors inform Danielle that a marrow transplant is his only hope. But the search for a donor presents a new set of challenges. Because finding a match among blood relatives is his best chance, she must return to her hometown to confront painful childhood secrets and people who have left deep scars on her heart. Can she face her demons to save the son she loves so dearly?

When asked about her inspiration for the novel, Mills stated, “When my son was younger, he had some medical difficulties that sent us to specialists and the children’s hospital on a regular basis. We were often thrown together with families of severely-ill children. I saw their struggles and their pain first-hand. Those experiences impacted me deeply.”

Her own son has since recovered from his medical challenges, but many families are not so fortunate. “Each time I hear about a child in the community fighting cancer, my heart goes out to them and their family.” Putting dollars in a collection jar or contributing to a school fundraiser didn’t satisfy her need to help. So Mills penned a story and donates a portion of the proceeds from each book sold to children’s cancer charities. Since September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Mills is giving 100% of the book’s proceeds to charity.

Holding On is available in electronic and print versions. Books can be purchased online from major booksellers or locally at Color Me Christian Bookstore. More information is available at http://www.authorlisamills.com.
