Counter Terror Conference details announced

Sept. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The Investigator is hosting a one-day conference assessing how the investigation and prosecution of counter terrorism offences has changed and evolved over the past ten years since the September 11 attacks.

The conference will provide an assessment of the current threat and its implications for the future of counter terror investigations as well look at changes in legislation and policy.

Conference focus

It will also focus on best practice case studies from investigators and prosecutors over the past ten years and look at lessons to be learned.
Emphasis will also be placed on the link between local investigations and international counter terrorism offences as well as a look at the changing relationships between the police and other organisations such as the security services.

There will also be an assessment of the future challenges and advice on how police, prosecutors and the security services can meet these challenges against a backdrop of dwindling budgets.

Representatives from the security industry will also be demonstrating how cutting edge technology has played a major part in the investigation of counter terror offences.

Key speakers

• Former Met counter terror Det Chief Supt Keith Weston and now fellow of Hull University and Greenwich Maritime Institute – the changing relationship between the police and the security services post-9/11 – implications for investigators; an assessment of the current threat and predictions for the future
• DS Andrew Staniforth, North East Counter Terror Unit and author of Blackstone’s Counter Terror handbook – evolving nature of the terror threat over the past ten years; significant legislation and developments.
• Crown Prosecution Service Counter Terror Division, the changing face of counter terror prosecutions – an assessment and case studies – future implications for investigators and prosecutors
