Designed to supplement a school’s classroom curriculum, VHS is a non-profit, worldwide collaborative of schools, teachers and students. VHS member schools have access to over 400 online core, elective, Advanced Placement and honors courses, which are delivered co-synchronously and taught by VHS teachers who actively teach in classrooms at their member schools. All are certified in their specific discipline and have completed a graduate level professional development program in online teaching. Instructors facilitate and continually monitor all courses, engaging students in discussions, and assessing each individual student’s progress.
Starting on September 7, 2011, students at the following middle and high schools will be taking a VHS course online at their school with classmates and a teacher in other parts of the world. Through enrollment in courses, such as AP Music Theory, Biotechnology and Latin, students are able to develop global citizenship, 21st century literacies, independent learning and time management skills, as well as get their feet wet in an intended major.

“These new VHS member schools have recognized the value of providing a wide selection of rigorous and engaging online courses to their students,” said Liz Pape, President & CEO of VHS. “Many schools, facing budget cuts have had to cancel low enrollment courses over the last few years. By partnering with VHS, they are now able to continue to provide the courses that students need and want while equipping them with critical skills that will be invaluable in their next level of education or careers.”
