The Wartburg in Mount Vernon Helps Nursing Home Evacuees from NYC

Aug. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- The Wartburg Adult Care in Mount Vernon hosted 9 nursing home residents evacuated from their south shore facility in Queens, NY, in advance of Tropical Storm Irene’s arrival from mid-afternoon Saturday, until Monday evening, when they returned home.

“Residents came to our long-term care residence with their charts, medications and diets,” said Paula Ress, Administrator of the program at The Wartburg.  “Our guests participated in The Wartburg’s activities and passed the time until it was safe to return to home, and even seemed to enjoy our menu.”

David Gentner, President and CEO of The Wartburg , said, “The Wartburg was pleased to be able to help these residents get to higher ground, and our staff went out of its way to ensure a smooth transition.  Fortunately, the storm did not impact any of our buildings seriously, and we did not have to start our back-up generators.  Ongoing maintenance of the large trees on the grounds also helped prevent serious damage.”
