Aug. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- As part of its initiative to support small businesses, premier builder C.W. Driver has entered into an SBA (Small Business Administration) mentor-protégé agreement with Hubzone, an Inland Empire-based contractor. It is the first such partnership for C.W. Driver, which will use the union to pursue projects in the federal/military sector while supporting Hubzone in areas such as marketing and management.

“Hubzone is a good fit for C.W. Driver’s mentor-protégé goals because our two companies share the same core values: integrity, commitment, teamwork, loyalty and leadership,” said C.W. Driver Senior VP of Business Development Bob Maxwell. “Hubzone is eager to deepen its roots and grow its scope of business which, as a now- 92-year-old company, is how C.W. Driver began its legacy. We are excited to be part of this process.”

Under the mentor-protégé agreement, C.W. Driver and Hubzone will work toward gaining federal/military-type contracts while C.W. Driver helps Hubzone grow by lending marketing, estimating, accounting and operations management assistance and exposing it to a more diverse group of subcontractors.

Hubzone is a 10-employee company that was founded in 2006 by President/CEO Charmaine Burnett, a disabled veteran of the U.S. Air Force. The company, headquartered in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., specializes in concrete, drywall, painting, ceilings, floor coverings, electrical and more.

“We believe C.W. Driver has the experience, resources and wherewithal to help take our business where we want it to go over the next several years,” Burnett said. “Our company is eager to go to the next level, and in C.W. Driver, we’ve found a willing mentor in position to help us accomplish that goal.”

Greg Brown, director of C.W. Driver’s federal program, believes Hubzone, and Burnett’s willingness to learn, make for a natural fit in the SBA’s mentor-protégé program.

“The sky is the limit with this program, and Hubzone’s goal of wanting to grow its business fits its mold perfectly,” Brown said. “We look forward to supporting the SBA and small businesses, as well as helping Hubzone grow its own business.”

The SBA's mentor-protégé program is designed to help companies such as Hubzone enhance the capability of its participants to compete more successfully for federal government contracts. The program encourages private-sector relationships and expands SBA’s efforts to identify and respond to the developmental needs of its clients.
