                                                   Teens-In-Flight Announces Three New Board Members

Palm Coast, FL – Teens-In-Flight is proud to announce three new board members: Flagler County Sheriff Don Fleming, Flagler County School Board member Colleen Conklin, and retired Navy Seal James Nicola to the Teens-In-Flight board of directors.

Sheriff Don Fleming is a veteran law enforcement officer with more than thirty six years of extensive law enforcement experience. Sheriff Fleming is a Vietnam Veteran as well as an advisory board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler, Crime Stoppers of Volusia-Flagler, RSVP Flagler County and Executive Board member of the North Florida HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Task Force.

Colleen Conklin is a member of the Flagler County School Board, District 2. She has served on the board for eight years. Colleen is a passionate child advocate and feels honored to serve such an outstanding group of education professionals in a county with such terrific kids and families.

James Nicola is a Navy Seal with multiple military and police commendations including Chief of Police awarded Life Saving Award. In addition to his military service, Nicola has worked for the Houston Police Department and has been involved in a variety of specialized security related tasks for government, corporate and private clients both domestic and international.

“We feel privileged and honored to welcome these new board members,” says Director of Teens-In-Flight, Col. Jack Howell (Ret.). “All three new board members bring their experience and expertise to our organization and we are thrilled to add them to our talented board,” Col. Howell adds.

Teens-In-Flight is also now accepting applications for their flight training and aviation maintenance scholarships. Eligible teenagers are those who have lost a parent in the Global War on Terrorism, have a parent who was wounded in action and is disabled, or teens who are considered "at risk" within our community.

“We are seeking teenagers that qualify for our program and have a desire to earn their private pilot’s license,” says Col. Howell. Col Howell’s experience of serving as a Casualty Assistance Officer (CAO), coupled with the experience of teaching in inner city high schools throughout the country, has provided the opportunity for close observations of families grieving and dealing with sudden, unexpected life altering tragedy.

They may also be dropped off at their upcoming open house on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 6:00 pm in Hangar B of the Flagler County Airport.

Teens-In-Flight is a 501(C) 3 foundation formed to support the families of our military. Through the modem of aerospace education we open the doors of opportunity. Teens-In-Flight provides flight training and aviation maintenance scholarships to those teens that have lost a parent in the Global War on Terrorism or, is the teen of a parent who was wounded in action and is disabled. Another phase of the program also focuses on selected teens that are considered "at risk" within our community by providing a positive aviation intervention experience. The program could not exist without the generous donations of Teens-In-Flight partner FourStarAero, a private aviation company that donates office space, flight instructors, and the aircraft for Teens-In-Flight students.
