Uzuri anti-tan gel, a unique spf 30 product specifically developed for people with Asian, Afro-Caribbean and other dark skin types has gone on sale at Co-operative Pharmacy branches across the country, on their purchasing website www.co-operativepharmacy.co.uk, and at Independent Pharmacies.
Orthodontist Tazeen Usmani and her sister Naila formulated the gel after failing to find anything suitable for their complexions.
“Having an Asian skin I didn’t want to go any darker in the sun and tried for years to find a sun block that didn’t leave an unsightly white residue on the skin,” explained Tazeen, from her home in Wilmslow.
“When I talked to friends and neighbours with darker skins I found they, like me, were desperate to find a way of protecting their skins with a product that was easy to apply and which didn’t leave a visible residue. Eventually I decided to talk to my sister who is a consultant dermatologist in Leeds.”
Together the sisters thoroughly researched the subject and then came up with the idea of formulating their own product that would be easy to apply, help to protect the skin from darkening, burning and premature ageing as well as being virtually invisible.
“After finalising a formulation that ticked all the boxes, we spoke to the Co-operative Pharmacy, who liked our product and agreed to sell it in their branches and on their purchasing website,” added Tazeen, a mother of two who runs a successful, award-winning orthodontic centre in nearby Heaton Mersey.
“After having spent a lifetime trying to find a suitable product for myself and my family, I’m delighted that Uzuri is available to all those who, like me, want sun protection for darker skins. While fairer skin types may still want a tan, many of those with darker skin prefer not to go any darker. We also want the UVA and UVB protection that helps prevent premature ageing, skin cancer and Melasma.”
Tazeen’s sister Naila, who is a NHS consultant dermatologist at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, and also has consulting rooms in Whitefield and Heaton Mersey, added: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to utilise the expertise of the Co-operative Pharmacy to bring our product to a wider audience across the UK.
“Uzuri’s special formulation means that it is really easy to apply, gliding over the skin and leaving the skin with a lustre and shine.”
Uzuri anti-tan gel can be ordered directly from the Co-operative Pharmacy website www.co-operativepharmacy.co.uk at £11.99 plus p&p. Further information is available from www.uzuriskin.com
