Aug. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- When it comes to food, these days more and more families are focused on making healthy choices. The challenge is that many times healthier foods can come at premium prices. And the squeeze put on household budgets by today’s tight economy can make it even more difficult to purchase foods that are good for both the body and the pocketbook. SHARE Food Buying Club can help families striving to eat healthy.

SHARE is a nonprofit volunteer-run food buying club that’s been helping families save 30-50% on groceries for over 25 years. There are no income limits, eligibility guidelines or membership fees to purchase food through SHARE. Families place orders at the beginning of the month and pick their food up at a location near them toward the end of the month.

Every month of the year, SHARE offers a selection of frozen meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and dry goods, convenience items, organic produce and more. Members pick and choose the items they want for their family.

In an effort to highlight some of the organization’s healthier products, SHARE recently debuted a “Fit & Frugal” section on its monthly order form. These always include the Organic Produce Assortment (over 10 lbs. for $15), no sugar added juice boxes (44 for $11.25), and more selections that change monthly.

There are nearly 200 SHARE food pick-up locations throughout Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, northern Illinois and northeastern Minnesota. Each of those locations is run by a crew of volunteers dedicated to bringing savings on quality food to their communities. In total, over 1,000 volunteers make SHARE’s low prices possible.

SHARE distributes supermarket quality foods that are sourced on the wholesale market, just like a grocery store chain. None of the food is donated or government commodity. In addition to its dedicated volunteer workforce, SHARE’s volume purchasing and distribution system enable it to obtain outstanding prices for its members.

SHARE is now accepting orders for pick-up in September. Families can order online at www.sharewi.org through September 11, or they can call toll-free 800-548-2124 to order through September 9. Pick-up will be held on Saturday, September 24 at most SHARE locations.

SHARE’s online ordering system accepts debit and credit card payments, while the local volunteer team and main office can also accept cash, check, money order and Quest/Link/Bridge (food stamp) cards.
