In addition to backpacks and school supplies, children also received gift cards for new shoes and haircuts. The fun-filled day includes prizes and music, as well as health exams and sports physicals.
Formed in 1992, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County provides legal, medical and therapeutic resources for children who are victims of abuse. With one in four girls and one in six boys falling victim to sexual abuse before they turn 18, the Children’s Advocacy Center is an extremely valuable organization for many area youth and families.
"We are so grateful for the generous support of Encana which will help our Back to School Fair meet the needs of so many children,” said Katy Emerson, Community Relations Manager at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County. “For the children we serve, simple things like notebook paper or a calculator can be out of reach, so providing these supplies means that these children have the tools they need to be successful in school. This is a legacy that can last a lifetime."
Through its community partnerships, Encana demonstrates its commitment to assisting organizations such as the Children’s Advocacy Center. “Funding for these children is such an important step to helping them realize their potential,” said Jerri Akers, team lead for Encana’s Community Relations group. “The back-to-school effort is just one way for us to show these kids that their community cares about their educational future.”
