Aug. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- The World Organization of the Scout Movement and the Association des Scouts du Canada today announced at a press conference in Ottawa that an international Scout event was coming to Canada: the 14th World Scout Moot CANADA 2013.

A Moot is an international gathering of Scouts between 18 and 25 years of age. The 14th World Scout Moot will take place for the first time in Canada, from August 8 to 18, 2013, bringing together up to 5,000 young adults from around the world.

The Moot 2013 headquarters will be located at the Awacamenj Mino outdoor base in Low, Quebec, 75 km north of Ottawa-Gatineau. This natural setting, right in the heart of the Outaouais forest, is where the large gatherings such as the opening and closing ceremonies will take place, as well as conferences, workshops and outdoor activities. However, part of the program will take place in the urban settings of Ottawa-Gatineau, Montréal, Quebec City and Toronto, where the young people will be invited to take part in an expedition challenge.

Citing the examples of people like Bill Gates, Brian Mulroney, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Steven Spielberg and Barbara Walters, World Scout Bureau representative John Neysmith wanted to point out that the world’s greatest leaders had been part of the Scout movement. “This event represents an excellent forum through which to convey a positive image of Scouting, which to this day remains the biggest youth movement in the world, with more than 30 million members in 216 countries and territories,” he pointed out.

From August 8 to 18, 2013, Moot Canada 2013 will highlight the modern and traditional aspects of Canada, and feature seasoned Scouts from around the world. “Once they return home, we hope that the participants will become true agents of change by spreading their new knowledge throughout their communities,” indicated Robert Nowlan, National Commissioner of the Association des scouts du Canada, the organization in charge of organizing the Moot.

The impact of this event will be felt far and wide, both in terms of the people brought together from the immediate area and nationally, and in terms of the local tourist industry, because several cultural and outdoor products will be consumed during the event. This is an extraordinary showcase for the Ottawa Valley, Quebec, Ontario and Canada on the world stage.

Directed by Groupe Simoncic, an event management firm that is well known in the National Capital Region, the organization of Moot Canada 2013 will require volunteers and a $3.9 M investment. For additional information about this event, visit www.mootcanada2013.ca
