(Austin, TX) – The Khabele School of Austin is an innovative progressive college preparatory private school for 6th through 12th grade students that emphasizes academic integrity as well as the development of creative, physical, social, and emotional intelligence. This summer, they will merge with Primavera Montessori school, a kindergarten and elementary school program.

In fact, the merger came about because the directors of both schools had children—at the other school! Synergy like that couldn’t be ignored, and both schools’ core values are closely aligned. Merging The Khabele School and Primavera Montessori creates both new opportunities and stability for the unified school.

The naming strategy for the school will be revealed in early November, with input from students. The new, unified school emphasizes accountability, healthy relationships, emotional intelligence, leadership, and community as the foundation for effective education.

Four Reasons Khabele and Primavera Are Merging

1. Cohesive Education and Pedagogy: The vision is to cultivate learning communities in which each and every student, parent, and staff member falls in love with learning, realizes their profound beauty, and lives with courage and authenticity. Both schools will benefit from having a significant percentage of students begin this kind of cohesive education in their early years and continue throughout high school until graduation.

2. Increased Resources for All Students: The long-term vision includes three campuses—the current Primavera campus (to house preschool programs), a new elementary campus, which will also house auxiliary athletics facilities, and the current downtown middle/high school campus. Now that both schools are known for being high quality private schools in Austin, the merger creates the opportunity for the schools to provide the resources of high quality private schools, including green space, athletics facilities, and creative and beautiful classroom buildings.

3. Increased Financial Stability: Pooling financial resources allows the school to have the financial backing to increase resources and academic quality, and solidify the school as a viable and sustainable nonprofit for years to come.

4. The Opportunity to Be a Leader in Education: A nonsectarian private school that integrates meaningful participatory learning with high academic standards. The merged schools focus on holistic, participatory, meaningful learning, while the merger itself will allow the school to serve more students and become a leader in the educational landscape of Austin.

The school’s Mission and Philosophy follow.

Mission: The mission of the Khabele School is to cultivate learning communities in which each and every student, parent, and staff member realizes their profound beauty, falls in love with learning, and lives with courage and authenticity

Philosophy: The Khabele School, and now Primavera, intend that all students demonstrate the "5 Attributes of Success" upon graduation. The curriculum, hiring policies, teacher training, parent education, student services, and programming are based on the development of these 5 attributes in students: Well-Being; Environmental/Cultural Awareness; Self-Generating Learner; Self Expression; Leadership.
