GirlDoc Makes its First Donation to the AMA and WPC

GirlDoc, an e-commerce website featuring gifts, apparel and care packages designed specifically for women in medicine has made its first contribution to the Joan F Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- As a result of the positive response from women in medicine throughout the US, GirlDoc, an e-commerce website featuring gifts, apparel and care packages, has made the first of what they hope to be many contributions to the Joan F Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship fund was established by the AMA (American Medical Association) and the WPC (Women Physicians Congress) with the goal of advancing the progress of women in the medical profession and strengthening the ability of the AMA to identify and address the needs of women physicians and medical students.

In an acknowledgement of the donation, Dwight S. Edwards, Development & Planned Giving Director for the AMA Foundation said “Bell Lewis, our database and finance coordinator, shared the news about your contribution to the Joan F. Giambalvo Memorial Scholarship with me today.  I was very pleased to learn of your support and to know that your business is finding success. Thank you for supporting the AMA Foundation's efforts to advance women in medicine, and best wishes for continued success."

"Our support of this fund is very important to me as a first generation physician trying to make her way in a traditionally male dominated field" said Taylor Brandt, MD co-founder of GirlDoc.  "We want women to know that medicine can be a comfortable and viable field of study, and that they don't have to give up their femininity in order to become a doctor, nurse, veterinarian or dentist."

http://www.thegirldoc.com was born as a response to the lack of gifts geared toward women studying medicine or employed in the medical field. Hailey Brandt's efforts to encourage her sister through medical school and difficult exams resulted in numerous internet searches for gift ideas for doctors. Many websites revealed neckties, cufflinks or desk accessories, but nothing with a decidedly feminine flair.

Hailey and Taylor then put their heads together to come up with a list of items that would appeal to women that are heavily involved with their careers and left with no time for brick and mortar shopping. They have reached out to women entrepreneurs and artists promoting their creations, as well as companies that deal in fair trade products.

"On Call", "Post Call", and "White Coat Ceremony" Care Packages are unique gift choices that are perfect for hard working women, as well as a variety of hand-painted glassware, sterling silver, and custom frames. The company also features Gift Certificates and express shipping. For Gift Basket & Care Package information please visit www.thegirldoc.com/Gift-Baskets_c_7.htm
