State Archives, which collects and preserves historical and documentary materials, has advice for historical societies, government officials and individuals on protecting vital records in case of emergencies such as hurricanes.
• Create or update your emergency contact list • Review your disaster response plan • Conduct a disaster drill • Survey your building for risks and try to mitigate them For additional information on the protection of vital documents, other resources include the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB). A grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission provided for disaster preparedness training across the state.
