The new BMW X3: Description in Brief
A perfect combination of practicality, functionality and dynamism; the new BMW X3 is an all-round performer.
The athletic agility and design of the new BMW X3 is highlighted by strikingly modern contours. The external dimensions of the new BMW X3 have grown larger translating into greater comfort with a harmonious and generous sense of space. The optional panorama glass sunroof creates a particularly bright ambience inside the cabin.
The interior of the new BMW X3 prides itself with the largest luggage compartment in its class. The rear-seat backrest is divided in three parts (a split of 40/20/40) and can be individually folded down to increase the luggage compartment capacity from 550 litres to a maximum of 1,600 litres.
To increase Driver orientation, the centre console is tilted slightly towards the driver so that all the relevant operating functions provide a sense of personal control. Seats in the new BMW X3 are electrically adjustable on both the driver and front seat passenger sides.
The new BMW X3 allows drivers to choose the desired suspension settings such as Normal, Sports and Sports+ and adjusts the suspension to suit the driving conditions and road quality.
The entertainment and communication functions are controlled through the on-board iDrive. The iDrive comes with a 6.5 inch high resolution display screen in the new BMW X3 xDrive20d and an 8.8 inch high resolution display screen on the new BMW X3 xDrive30d.
The new BMW X3 features Bi-Xenon headlights with LED (Light Emitting Diode) light rings in BMW classic style which improves road illumination at night and in poor visibility conditions.
The BMW xDrive is an intelligent all-wheel drive system with a built-in sense of direction. It monitors the driving situation constantly and distributes drive power smoothly between the axles. And it thinks ahead too. As one drives, the xDrive analyses data from the on-board electronics systems such as speed, steering angle, torque output and other key factors – and calculates whether the vehicle can follow the driver’s wish or if it threatens to oversteer or understeer, thereby preventing the vehicle from swerving.
The new BMW X3 also features Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control as standard which prevent vehicle rolling on inclines/declines.
The particularly smooth eight-speed automatic transmission in the new BMW X3 combines outstanding gearshift comfort, dynamic performance and efficiency of the highest level.
The new BMW X3 xDrive 20d accelerates to 100 km/hr in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/hr (electronically limited). The four-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharger and common-rail direct injection gives a maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp at 4,000 rpm as well as maximum torque of 380 Nm from 1,750 to 2,750 rpm.
The new BMW X3 xDrive 30d accelerates to 100 km/hr in 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/hr (electronically limited). The turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine with common-rail direct injection gives a maximum output of 190 kW/258 hp at 4,000 rpm as well as maximum torque of 560 Nm from 2,000 to 2,750 rpm.
The new BMW X3 xDrive20d comes fitted with 17-inch light alloys and the new BMW X3 xDrive30d with 18-inch light alloys.
The new BMW X3 comes with Run-Flat tyres which remain functional even after a complete loss of pressure.
The new BMW X3
BMW EfficientDynamics is the world’s most comprehensive and innovative package for reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions, while increasing Sheer Driving Pleasure unique to BMW.
Extreme body-shell rigidity and low weight: This is the principle behind BMW’s Light Weight Construction. This has been achieved through the use of high-strength multi-phase steels, high-strength hot-moulded steels, aluminium and special polycarbonate glass.
Brake Energy Regeneration:
Electronic Power Steering: The electromechanical steering only operates during the actual steering process. When driving straight ahead, or at a constant steering angle, the electric motor does not consume any energy.
Auto Start/Stop function turns off the engine when power is not required – for example, in a traffic jam or at a traffic light. The effect: no fuel consumption, no emissions.
Run-Flat tyres remain functional even after a complete loss of pressure. Hence, a spare tyre is no longer required, reducing vehicle weight, enhancing performance and reducing fuel consumption.
