Follow on Google News | Legacy of Service Lives On In Quilt Squares And Quilts for Homeless VeteransCome to the I-Cubs game September 1 and take a moment to decorate a quilt square honoring a military service member!
Sept. 1 is National Guard Night at Principal Park and CISS is looking for community members to take a few minutes during the ballgame to decorate a quilt square in honor or in memory of someone they know who has served their country as either a military service member or public service worker. The quilts will allow the service member's legacy of service to live on by providing warmth to Central Iowa's homeless veterans. CISS has set a goal of having 3,000 volunteers participate in their 9/11 service project. That is approximately one person for every one person who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Through designing and decorating quilt squares, participants will show respect and deference to the sacrifice of those lost on September 11, 2001 and pay tribute to those who have risen in service in response to the tragedy. The game begins at 6:35 PM on Thursday, September 1 and the I-Cubs will be facing off against the Nashville Sounds. Tickets can be purchased by calling 243-6111 or at www.iowacubs.com. Spend a night supporting your local team and helping those in need! # # # Central Iowa Shelter & Services’ mission is to provide free shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions, and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency.
