Tragic Dive Accidents Highlight Training Needs

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- A USCG-approved maritime training facility is now offering additional enrollment benefits to its fellow Dive Industry Association members interested in pursuing their captain’s license through December 31, 2011.

Explorer’s Guide Maritime Training will award a $50 discount to DIA members who register for either the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) or Masters 100-Ton course. A $40 discount will be applied for the Master 100-Ton Upgrade course. The training facility will conduct OUPV or Master 100-Ton classes in person for groups of 10 or more. If the group supplies the classroom, this service is provided at no additional charge. After DIA registration is completed, Explorer’s Guide will also make a charitable donation to scuba training for disabled veterans or the Coral Reef Alliance.

DEMA estimates that there are 2.5 to 3 million active divers in the United States. Diving from a charter or personal boat is often the best way to reach favorite diving sites. In many cases, boater safety and diver safety are taught independently of each other. Continued education and cross training of boaters and divers is paramount in reducing risk.
