EmploymentCrossing finds over 3,500 jobs in Oregon even when unemployment rate is stubbornly rising

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA, August 24, 2011 - Unemployment rate remained high in southern and central areas of Oregon, stubbornly rising to a seasonally adjusted 9.5 percent.

Crook County experienced a 0.2 percent hike from June's unemployment rate bring it to 15.6 percent in July. Nearly 40 jobs were lost in Crook County.

According to the Employment Department of Oregon, total nonfarm employment decreased by 3,650 jobs in Benton County, when a decrease of 2,540 jobs would be expected. After July's large unemployment rise, Benton County's employment was down from the April 2008 level by 1,400 jobs.

Large shift was seen in employment this July when 2,430 jobs were cut by state government and 710 jobs by local government. Unemployment rate stood at 13.4 percent in Jefferson County, Linn County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 11.7 percent in July, and Deschutes County's unemployment rate was at 12.6 percent, even though 850 jobs were added in Deschutes County in July.

Private sector employment decreased 550 jobs, while 3,100 jobs were decreased in the public sector, over the month. 1,100 jobs were gained in the construction industry and 1,500 jobs were added in trade, transportation, and utilities sector.
