Teresa Kimminau Awarded Air Force Association Scholarship to Grantham University

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Kansas City, Mo. – Grantham University, a 60-year-old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adult students around the world, is proud to join with the Air Force Association (AFA) in awarding a scholarship to Air Force spouse, Teresa Kimminau. The full-scholarship will cover tuition, required textbooks, software, and fees for the completion of her master’s degree.

Kimminau plans to earn a Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing Education at Grantham University, so she can become a nurse educator.  

“I have always loved to teach, whether it is infant CPR to a roomful of new parents or the consequences of obesity to a group of pre-teens in middle school,” she wrote in her application essay. “My master’s degree in nursing has been on my bucket list for so many years, but the lifestyle of the military family as well as financial strains, kept that at bay.

“I look forward to standing in front of a group of promising nursing students, looking to fill a void in a profession that will be in high demand for many years to come.”

A mother of four and wife of an active-duty Air Force officer, Kimminau earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado. She has worked in the nursing field for more than 26 years. She also supports a number of Air Force Spouse’s clubs and Military Base Chapel boards, as well as volunteering in elementary schools as a classroom aide, substitute nurse/teacher and PTO/PTA Board representative.

“Teresa Kimminau is the perfect recipient for this award,” said Dr. Fred Snow, president of Grantham University. “She has dedicated her personal life to her role as a military wife and mother and her professional life to nursing. We are thrilled that she wants to continue her education and know that countless future nurses and their patients will benefit from her instruction and leadership.”

The mission of AFA includes promoting aerospace education, specifically the study of science, mathematics and technology. Each year, AFA and Grantham award a scholarship to an active duty dependent, an AFA member, or a dependent of an AFA member.

To aid Airmen in the pursuit of their educational goals, Grantham University participates in the Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABC) Program. AU-ABC is an initiative between Air University of the Air Force and Grantham University to offer baccalaureate degree opportunities to every Air Force enlisted member via distance learning. Through this program, Airmen can obtain their Business Administration, Computer Science or Criminal Justice undergraduate degrees.
