Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, Texas - August 24, 2011 - Glen M. Wilkerson, of Davis & Wilkerson, P.C., (www.dwlaw.com), believes strongly that more can be done to support U.S. troops who have been deployed to the Middle East. That belief has led to his support for The Hugs Project of Austin.
Nationally, The Hugs Project (www.TheHugsProject.com) was started in May of 2004 by Ray and Karen Stark of Oklahoma City, who recognized the need to help keep our soldiers cool during the summer and warm during the winter. With members in every state and more than 50 foreign countries, The Hugs Project has shipped over one million neck coolers (“HUGS”) which can reduce the body's core temperatures by 5+ degrees as well as 375 tons of care package items to our men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Austin's chapter of The Hugs Project is an outreach ministry of the women of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. (7815 Highway 290 West - - directly across 290 West from the entrance to the ACC Pinnacle Campus 512-288-3836). Glen’s wife, Sandy, is one of the founders of Austin's The Hugs Project.
Karen Stark said that all the ladies at Oak Hill United Methodist have set a great example of what it means to give back. "We appreciate Sandy and Glen Wilkerson and all the volunteers at Oak Hill United Methodist who are dedicated to letting our young service members know they are not forgotten," said Stark. "The Oak Hill United Methodist Women joined us in May of 2005. These women have a big heart for those in harm's way.”
Karen and Ray Stark will visit the Austin Hugs Group this Thursday, August 25, at 10 A.M. in the Adult Education Building at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. "It's an honor to work with this organization and help some of America's finest men and women serving in our Military," said Stark. “We're looking forward to meeting new people from the Austin area who are interested in doing projects to aid our troops overseas. We encourage other Austinites to get behind this project and come to the meeting Thursday morning or visit our web site to learn more.”
