Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The reason why marketing by direct sales is the future is because the methods of the past are dead in the water. Direct Marketing provides a way for people to “eliminate the middle man.” In the old days, you needed a ton of capital to start just about any business. Big players and big companies were responsible for nearly all startups. These days, anyone with a good idea can start a business on a shoestring budget.

Network Marketing was recently highlighted in The Wall Street Journal. An entire 24 page supplement was written about this business model titled: “The Ultimate Social Business Model: Why Now is Prime Time for Direct Selling.” The cover reads: “In 2010, direct selling companies generated over $125 Billion in revenues in 150 countries through 75 million men and women.” The cover continues with some other incredible statistics: “From March 2009 to May 2011, the top 7 publicly traded direct selling companies averaged a 268% increase in stock price.”

Even former critics of this business model are discovering why marketing person to person is better than the old ways of doing business, and the numbers show it's becoming more profitable every year. Answering this question, why marketing by direct sales has taken off, involves two major factors. The first most obvious one is technology. We're all more connected than ever before, and there is a true global economy like there has never been. The internet has revolutionized business even more than intercontinental flight did decades ago. The technological revolution has arrived like a freight train, and the nature of business has responded with a revolution of its own.

The more subtle factor why marketing has changed has to do with the current economic crisis and the reasons behind that. There is a group of global financial players who have hijacked the global economy to a degree not seen since The Great Depression. Big banks, mortgage companies, and sold-out government officials have threatened the entire global economy. People are angry and frustrated, and it's easy to see why marketing as it's existed is no longer benefitting all but the super rich.

When it's so easy to run a business using nothing more than a computer and telephone, the big players are no longer needed. They are the middle men who have bought and sold the world economy into ruin. A new egalitarian business model is gaining faster traction than even the most optimistic network marketer could have predicted. More and more, consumers are ready to do business with independent distributors of products rather than nameless, faceless corporations.

Yet another reason why marketing with direct sales is taking off is because it can be the best of both worlds. Large companies are even starting to adapt this business model. Citigroup has seen success with Primerica, it's direct sales financial services experiment. Avon generated $10.9 Billion in 2010. Donald Trump started a networking marketing company. Blithe Inc. has seen 3000% growth of ViSalus Sciences over the past 18 months to become the fastest growing direct sales company in North America. When big, well financed companies use a business model that's based on personal performance, it's a powerful way to motivate associates.  Rewarding success with a system of compensation that's infinitely more egalitarian than the standard 9 to 5 business model is a win-win situation for companies and workers.

Direct sales has been around for centuries, but most people have been so brainwashed with rote corporate thinking that they label it a “pyramid scheme” or some other ill-informed oral secretion. Once you get the facts, it's obvious that the old 9-5 system is a complete failure. Over the past 40 years, we've seen productivity increase while wages have fallen. If anything is a cruel scheme, it's a system where the CEO makes tens of millions of dollars in bonuses as hard working employees get laid off so their jobs can get outsourced to third world countries with slave wages. The reason why marketing is changing is a sharp reaction to this grim reality. Network marketing is a business model built on freedom and choice rather than schedules and wage slavery. There is no job interview involved with a network marketing company. The fact that you choose and hire the company is yet another reason reason why marketing is changing. It's a total reversal of the employer/employee relationship.

Technological tools and a shift in thinking are combining to power the greatest business revolution of our time. The reasons why marketing tactics change are always complex, but any reasonable person can see that this change is substantial, and shaping the future of business.
