New Featured Artist at Pivot Art Gallery

Aug. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- The work of Benjamin Meyer allows a viewer to reconsider how they see familiar space. An ordinary scene, translated through this remarkable artists own spatial vocabulary, turns into an experience of modified frames of reference.

There is a very fine painterly consideration in the work that is understood best when seen in person, but does come through in any format. The color scheme is seemingly minutely considered in a way that echoes landscape painters of the past. There is also great attention to the arrangement of individual elements and how they inform the overall (and at times conflicting) perspectives of a piece.

The work, geometrical and roughly based on computer inferred maps, balance a static, almost photographic moment with a painters skill and consideration. The paintings freeze time while simultaneously providing a way forward or through to a new space. And in this new space we glimpse the possibility of a new way to see.

Benjamin Meyer (b. 1981) makes paintings that explore pictorial space, structure, and perception through the fragmentation of image.  He received his MFA from San Francisco State University in 2007.
