PRLog - Aug. 22, 2011 - Internet destination for teens delivers interactivity from the start

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 22, 2011)   While being a teen these days still includes a love of style, sports, shopping and celebrities, there are many more important issues that are dealt with on a daily basis.  This is the premise of Whatever, a new web series – original online programming that takes a deep look into the private world of teens.  Unlike most teen programming, which tends to portray an overly-glamorized or otherwise unrealistic view of mainstream teenage life, Whatever will focus on the authentic challenges, joys and concerns of its audience, presented as a fun, edgy and meaningful dramedy.

Set to begin principal photography for its intro and pilot episodes at the beginning of September, Whatever has launched the first version of its web site, which gives visitors a taste of what’s to come – community and interactivity.  The site currently hosts auditions for the three lead roles in the series.  Site visitors are invited to read about the characters and choose who they want to see in the roles.  In less than 24 hours from the site’s launch, more than 1,500 votes had already been cast.

As the series progresses, features like blogs, forums and chat rooms will be added to the site, offering safe places to discuss “whatever.”   The producers also plan to work with organizations and foundations that deal with teen issues.

According to Whatever creator Matt McLaren, “In many ways, teens are writing this show.  All of the stories are based on real life experiences that I’ve learned about from talking openly with teens. What I found is that a lot of today’s teenagers live, to an extent, an adult lifestyle – which causes a great deal of challenges for them.  Instead of following the history of shows that sensationalize the first time a teen encounters, for example, alcohol, sex or drugs, I’m jumping into the middle of the story; after all of these ‘rites of passage’ have already occurred and been assimilated into their daily lives, I’m asking, ‘what happens now?’”

A cast of talented, dedicated actors and actresses have already been hired on the project. The full cast will be made public after voting for the 3 lead actresses has been completed.

Whatever, the Web Series, is a production of WordBox Media LLC, which is in the business of developing and producing original, niche-based entertainment content for streaming video platforms. The Whatever series web site can be visited at http://www.whatevertheseries.com.
