Mexico is becoming a hub of automotive manufacturing. Companies like Ford and Mazda are setting up shop in Mexico

Aug. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Mexico is gaining significantly when it comes to auto manufacturing. A few years ago many automotive companies selected China as a prime location for their automotive construction builds. The cost of producing in China has increased and as a result, auto companies have decided to build autos in Mexico.

Many people are surprised to learn that many companies, including American ones build vehicles in Mexico including Ford. European companies which have a presence in the country include Mercedes and Peugeot. Japanese brands which are establishing plants in the region include Mazda and Honda.

However, the recession has affected everyone and companies are now looking for a way to cut costs and save some big bucks. Where could they build cars for the least amount of money? China was a good choice back then. Pretty much all of the big companies had at least one plant in Mexico.

Mexico’s location is very close to North America. That makes it a lot easier to bring the cars over once they are built. In addition, production of vehicles in Mexico jumped to 2.3 million units in 2010 which the highest it has ever been. Mexico is actually number nine when it comes to countries that are building the most cars. Many companies feel that Mexico is considered an easier place for automotive vehicles to build cars than India or China.

Mexico is also a convenient location because many car parts are being sold in America are built there so now they can easily supply those parts to the companies who are located there. A few major companies looking to build a plant in Mexico include Nissan, Honda and Hyundai.

Mazda is currently having a plant built in Mexico in the region of Salamanca City. These plants will build subcompact Mazda cars made for import in Brazil and South America. The factory is expected to employ over 3,000 local workers. The factory is expected to open in 2013 and will cost around five hundred million dollars to build.
