Aug. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- An expert in dental implant procedures in the greater Los Angeles area spoke out recently on research he described as “revolutionary.”

Dr. Greg Rubin is the founder of the Calabasas Dental Institute, (CDI), the only full service dental practice and research facility of its kind in this upscale community about 20 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

CDI is leading the way in the practice and discipline of providing dental implants  - with a state-of-the-art facility  - providing the ability to replace missing or broken teeth using dental implants– and this research could prove to be very valuable in helping those with thinning bone in their jaw.

“The research used a bone-creating protein to augment bone growth – and this has the potential of improving dental implant success,” according to Dr. Rubin. “This has wide-ranging implications for an aging American population of adults with dental problems.”

According to Dr. Rubin, the research (provided by Georgia Health Sciences University), found that by implanting bone-morphogenetic protein in a specific site in the sinus cavity, more new bone formed within four weeks than using conventional bone grafting at the same site.

"They found the process encouraged superior bone growth than traditional bone grafts, which enhances the potential success of dental implants," Rubin said. "Eventually, this could be an over-the-counter process where a consumer could improve the quantity of bone growth prior to the dental implant procedure.”

According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 69 percent of adults ages 35-44 lose one or more teeth due to decay and 26 percent lose all permanent teeth by age 74.

Dr. Rubin and the Calabasas Dental Institute are on the leading edge of research to increase the quality of life for adults by providing the means to accomplish healthy teeth and keep them for a long time. Keeping people informed on the latest research is only one of the ways CDI helps people keep their teeth and gums healthy for life.
