City of Indio New Plan to Offer Advantage to Coachella Valley Businesses When Bidding on Contracts

Coachella Valley businesses to receive 5% advantage over out of area businesses

Aug. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Indio, CA … The City of Indio has adopted a new Local Vendor Purchasing Preference it was adopted at this week’s Indio City Council meeting.

Previously, only Indio businesses were able to receive an advantage when bidding on contracts for work in Indio.  Current regulations provide a 10% preference for a vendors located within the city limits.

With the new Vendor Purchasing Preference, all Coachella Valley businesses would get a 5% advantage when bidding on projects and contracts in Indio.  

“We feel with the new local vendor purchasing preference plan we are sending out a strong signal to businesses in the valley to stay local and help stimulate our local economy,” said Lupe Ramos Watson, Mayor of Indio.

Contracts for city work are awarded on the basis of quality, previous performance and the ability to meet the contract requirements.  When all of these factors are equal – except price – a preference will be given to local vendors of 5% for Coachella Valley and 10% for Indio.  

The new Vendor Purchasing Preference plan is set to go into effect September 17, 2011
